Sonny graduated from the University of Reading School of Pharmacy with an MPharm (Hons) pharmacy degree. Upon completion of his degree he worked within the primary care setting of community pharmacy.  

Sonny enrolled at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), Faculty of Law at Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL). He later graduated with an MSc in Management of Intellectual Property and a postgraduate certificate, PG Cert, granting exemption from the foundation exams of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) and Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA).

After graduating from QMUL he took on roles working with Gilead Sciences and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).
